One Sunday afternoon, as our family of four relaxed on the couch in our living room, we somehow got on the topic of palindromes. A palindrome is a word, phrase, or sequence that reads the same backward as forward.
Race car
Never odd or even
A man, a plan, a canal, Panama
Step on no pets
A couple days later, I was looking at the little whiteboard where we had written these down, and the word love came to mind, and God gave me this thought…Love spelled backwards is evol (evil). Huh! Yikes! If our focus is on God and His love for us, we are much less susceptible to the devil and the evil in the world. In 1 Peter 5:8, the Bible warns us, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” Scary, right?!? From a human perspective “yes,” but we have these words of comfort: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Phew! Our God is so good! He is always with us and always for us. While we need to be aware of the devil’s schemes, we are not facing them alone. Our Heavenly Father is walking with us. We need to keep this in mind when we think of our children and staff in Haiti. It sometimes seems like the darkness is going to overcome them, but we need to remember that they are not alone. They are walking in the light of Jesus. Think back to all the times that God has provided for our Haitian family...He will do it again. They are safe in His loving care!
